Charlie Allen Cambridge Contractor For more than four decades, Charlie Allen Renovations has been remodeling and restoring homes in the Greater Boston area. In that time, we’ve accumulated numerous awards and recognition, including 15 Cambridge and Somerville Preservation Awards, 5 Contractor of the Year awards, Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston, Remodeling Magazine’s Remodeler of the Month, Boston Globe Magazine’s Bathroom of the Year, and more.

But more importantly, we’ve achieved the wishes and dreams of scores of area homeowners. Every year, a large percentage of our business comes from referrals, and it’s the recommendation of these former clients that is the greatest validation for both our work and for our process, which many find unusual at the beginning.

At Charlie Allen Renovations, we put a lot of emphasis on the planning stage of every project. We don’t rush onto a job site and start demolition. Instead, we spend a good amount of time working closely with our clients to ensure that our plans perfectly address their needs, that we’ve considered and addressed potential issues, that we’ve explored innovative solutions and unexpected products and materials, and that we’ve developed a fixed-price contract that is realistic and eliminates surprises. This can be challenging for homeowners who want to get moving right away, but ultimately, it’s the most efficient method for achieving a successful renovation, completed on-time and on-budget.

“For more than four decades, Charlie Allen Renovations has restored and renovated scores of period homes large and small in the Greater Boston area, from modest one or two room projects to full house remodeling. We know how your house was built, and with decades of experience, exactly how to remodel it to fit your modern-day lifestyle without losing any well-earned charm. Please take a minute to review examples of our work HERE.”

I just wanted to take a few minutes to say "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!". I know that you have moved on to new projects and customers, but my mind wanders daily to a year ago when you were in the midst of transforming my apartment. (well, washing dishes in the tub is entirely over-rated) but, seriously, I have to tell you, I am so grateful. I think of each of you every day and say thank you in my heart for your part in the transformation of my home. You are the best!

“Trust is really the key to the whole thing when you’re working in this way,” Jim Miller says. The Millers had worked with Charlie Allen before and held them in high regard, but the project was still in some ways a leap of faith….But when the Millers describe their first look at their home after returning from Florida, it sounds like the dramatic ending of an HGTV reality show. “We were blown away,” Deb Miller says of the moment they stepped foot in their remodeled home. “We had seen it in pictures but . . . it’s hard to put it all together, the whole space, in the picture. So we were really thrilled with it when we got back and saw it.”

“I was a good student activist at Harvard, but then I had to make a living.  I had an on-again, off-again thing with remodeling through the '70s.  And in about 1978, I said this is good, this is what I'll do, and that's what I've done.  Trying to answer those seemingly competing interests—“I love my old house and want to retain it's authenticity or its charm or its style, but I need to change it”—that still gets me up in the morning....It's really heart-and-soul stuff for me.”
